So I live in Ireland now!
Whaaat.
Before, I left to go abroad, I knew I wanted to take the time to work on my writing. My goal is to journal every day and so far I’ve done it, so we’ll see!
I hope to update this blog semi regularly at least to share my adventures (or more often, misadventures). That’s the plan anyway!
My flight out to Ireland was on January 9th. The flight was pretty uneventful, I flew to Boston then had a 5 hour layover before flying onto Dublin. I wrote on the flight, I am trying to live moment by moment and not stress about what will happen even though I’m terrified about leaving all I know. My hope is that I learn to let go and become more of who I want to be.
I arrived Friday morning, January 10th. The mother of my host family picked me up and took me to my new home, in south Dublin!
So far, so good. I love my host family and we get along great. But moving to a new place where you know no one is scary and overwhelming. But’s it’s challenging me and making me grow. I’m trying to have grace with myself and enjoy the process.
Some highlights so far:
-Simply exploring the village where I live and being able to walk around and appreciate all the beauty–especially being so close to the sea!
-Meeting other au pairs from different countries and learning more about each other’s cultures.
-Spending time with some Catholic missionaries who are here in Ireland.
-Successfully being able to navigate the buses after several failed attempts (don’t ask…)
-Finding cute cafes on every corner.
-Going to the EPIC Emigration Museum with a new friend and learning more about Irish history.
-The tea culture.
-Last but not least—BREAD. ‘Nuff said.
Until next time–God bless,
Mary Grace
